A simple Google search will bring up a dizzying range of options for yoga teacher training. Apart from style options, there seem to be numerous beautiful locations to train in too. It can be a little difficult to know where to start with how to become a yoga instructor.

I'm not an expert, let's face it, I've only chosen one course and haven’t even taken it yet. I did however get advice from numerous teachers which I wanted to pass on.

Which type of yoga talks to you? Is it the traditional hatha practice, fun playful vinyasa flow or a strong ashtanga class. Some yoga teacher training courses might include restorative as well as yin. Remember that your own yoga teacher training will never be complete. Your first course is just the beginning and you will have plenty of options to learn more so don’t rush it and pack it all in. Talk to your teachers. They're an excellent resource, after all they've already done it and can offer you advice from their own experience. Find out where they trained and who with. Maybe one of their teachers is running a course. Maybe even one of your teachers is planning to run a course. It would be better to wait to be taught by someone whose classes you love than picking a course where you don't know the teacher or have a recommendation. Where you haven't had a chance to meet and or practice with your teacher then, you will have to rely on recommendations. Where in the world Part of the reason my friend Ina wanted to do her course was so that she could visit India. When I chose my course, I was actually quite reluctant to go to India, for me it was all about the teacher and style. So while I don't recommend getting bogged down in your motivations for doing your yoga teacher training course, it's evident that it can have some bearing, especially if what you're seeking to gain could be met in other ways, classes, and retreats.

In the end though your intuition is a powerful thing. I dithered for quite some time over which course to take even though in my heart I knew which one was for me. The dithering came from justifying the cost to myself, weather in fact I should do it even though i might not teach but rather that I just wanted to do it for myself.
